When Your Spirit Calls –
In Search of Your Spiritual Voice
Warren Ziegler with Mandy Ziegler

Award-Winning 2nd Edition Revised

The scope and diversity of the human spirit is enormous, as spirit exists in all 6.5 billion of us as an individual and unique presence. It is your unique presence that is the focus of When Your Spirit Calls – In Search of Your Spiritual Voice.

What does your own spirit invite you to be and to do? What is its call? Why is your own spirit in you and not in someone else, as much a part of your existence as your very own flesh and blood? How do you bring your spirit back into your life, your relationships, your work and the world? This book answers these basic questions in order to give you a way to work through everyday challenges and conflicts in your life and relationships, and work with the discovery of your spiritual archetype.

Ziegler identified nine spiritual categories, which he called spiritual archetypes, from participants and colleagues attending his futures workshops over the past 30 years. He found that these individual archetypes lay underneath each participant’s compelling images of their future.

Archetypes are templates, or ideal types, that you can use as prisms through which to discover the call of your own spirit. Detailed descriptions are presented as powerful tools for examining who and what you are in the process of becoming…..or denying. Ziegler provides many human stories and examples by which each archetype is first known, stories which come from his own life experience and from the images, the concerns and the questions of the works of others.

As the story of the spiritual archetypes and their characteristics unfolds, you are invited to examine each type within the context of your own unique life experience. Your own personal story may be replete with false starts, mixed signals and the accouterments of a biography which too seldom rings true with the authenticity of your spirit.

When asked who and what you are, your initial response is to offer a litany of stories about yourself which is your social biography. Throughout our lives, we have all heard such stories. We have come to believe them through the mechanisms of socialization where our parents, family, friends, teachers and colleagues as well as our social class, ethnic group, country or region of origin, gender and the mass media combine to create an extraordinarily powerful social biography of of knowledge, beliefs, values, attitudes and faiths. Through these mechanisms, we are protected and too often deprived of learning from our own immediate, unmediated experiences of life as we encounter it.

In order to come to your true self and to heed the call of your spirit, you must escape the social biography’s boundaries to arrive at the beautiful country of your spiritual calling. Ziegler offers a number of tools and questions which give a strong insight into whether or not your individual spirit is drawn to one or another of these archetypes, whether or not one of these archetypes most accurately describes your own project of why you are here, and what you are called to be and to do in your life.
